ACT Test Prep: June/July Testing Plan in Amid COVID-19

Ever since the April 2020 ACT Test was cancelled due to public health concerns related to COVID-19, there have been many questions about upcoming ACT exams for the summer of 2020. Will the June exam happen? Will the July exam happen? What will testing procedures and centers look like? Here is everything we know so far and the work ACT is doing to make sure to protect all students planning to take an upcoming ACT exam.

With schools continuing to practice social distancing using online learning tools and groups of 10 or more discouraged in most areas of the country, there are a lot of questions surrounding upcoming standardized tests, such as the ACT. Considering that the April 2020 ACT exam was completely cancelled, parents and students want to know if the same fate will be true for the June and July exams or whether they can bank on the exams taking place.

There is no definitive answer at the moment as to whether the June and July ACT exams will take place. Currently, the ACT is planning that the June and July tests WILL take place. That being said, the health and safety of students and exam administrators is the top priority for ACT, so they are ready at any moment to modify the testing plans for this summer.

Here is what we know for sure:

  • ACT is closely monitoring CDC guidelines and will use CDC recommendations to determine whether testing centers will host the June and July 2020 ACT exams.

  • Starting the week of May 26th, students can expect to receive confirmation about the June 13th exam and whether their testing center is moving forward with testing. Students will receive a direct communication from ACT with next steps for testing centers that have been approved to test on June 13th.

  • For students and testing centers that cannot test on the standard June 13th and July 18th test dates, there will be makeup test dates available on June 20th and July 25th.

  • ACT is waiving cancellation fees and letting students change their testing dates for free.

  • ACT is working with individual testing centers and site administrators to help them prepare for test day. Testing centers will follow CDC guidelines as they relate to maintaining a social distance between students and keeping areas clean.

  • Students are allowed to bring their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as masks, hand sanitizer, and gloves on test day. No PPE will be supplied by the testing center. Students will have to briefly remove their mask to undergo the security check prior to entering the testing room.

ACT is continuously updating their COVID-19 response information on their website and monitoring new developments and recommendations of the CDC. If you have plans to take an ACT exam this summer, be sure to keep up to date on ACT news by following ACT online.

For students who do not want to take an ACT exam this summer, the ACT offers three additional testing dates this year: September 12, October 24, and December 12. Additionally, the ACT will begin offering a remote proctoring option sometime this coming fall/winter, which will allow students to take the ACT at home from their computers. That being said, there are plenty of upcoming testing options for students to take the ACT if they are not yet ready or do not wish to take the test this summer.
